Couple of years back I was at my rifle/pistol club range,,,
A deer started walking across the 100 yard berm.
One of the other three shooters there placed a round at it's feet to scare it away,,,
The deer took the hint and scurried away pretty quickly.
Then the weird thing happened.
One of the other shooters called the park rangers station,,,
We lease the range land from the parks department.
A ranger came out and started to write the man up for "hunting out of season",,,
Even though he didn't see the event and was relying totally on a snitch.
All of the other shooters there were trying to get the ranger to use some sense,,,
He insisted that shooting anywhere near the deer was "hunting".
The man who shot walked to the 100 yard berm and retrieved his target,,,
He showed the ranger five shots that were a nice MOA grouping,,,
Then said, "If I were hunting the deer, it would be dead."
We all signed and dated the target for evidence,,,
Then told the ranger that we would all show up at court.
He eventually relented and tore up the citation.
Then we all turned on the snitch,,,
Read him the riot act and turned his license plate in to the club president.
I've never seen him at the range again.
