Could somebody enlighten me as to why you would go with a 9mm AR over a standard .556 or other rifle round? What are the benefits? Particularly the ones with just a buffer tube and no stock it looks a little weird to me but I'm new to the concept.

I have both, but went with 9mm due to cheaper ammo. The ones with no stocks are registered as pistols and in my opinion are just plinkers/novelties, but I'm sure they have some practical applications for those that own them. BTW what am I doing up and why so serious?

I used to think the same thing, WHY?
After I was able to play around with 1 I knew why.
The 9mm AR's are extremely fun for plinking & very accurate.
Ammo is cheap compared to 5.56, & like dustingaunder said "9mm AR's are flippin sexy".
:hey3:

The pistols are are alot of fun too, but not as much fun as the rifles.
In my experience they're an interim.
Most folks I know that have 9MM pistol AR's are waiting for their tax stamp to come back so they can slap a buttstock on it.
Not all, some are completely happy with the pistol configuration.
For those waiting to get their stamp back, the reason for using it in a pistol config., is so they can shoot it with the short barrel.
You can't legally have a barrel shorter than 16" on a rifle without a tax stamp.

If you've never tried it, give it a shot.
Run a full mag thru 1 & I guarantee you'll like it.

9mm ARs are fun to drive, and more potent with a shorty barrel than a 5.56(IMO), not to mention they bump fast and smooth, and stay on target pretty well when doing so. One of these days I'll pony up and go SBR, a can, and one of those long, light, sexy YHM foreguard that goes just past the barrel, with a down grip... one of these days! OOoooo! If I ever win the lottery I'll get a RDIAS, or something to the like. If only, if only.

A box of 50 is $10 at wally world. How much is a box of 50, brass case 5.56 again?

What's with the buffer tube, and no stock? Good question. It saved me $200, and a lot of paperwork. It took some getting used to for me too (the way they look), 'til I shot one. Now it just looks normal to me. You cheek the tube like the stock was there. Very steady. Espicially with a sling. If you live nearby, you can come shoot it... yoooooulll see!!! Bwahahahaha!!! Worse than black tar heroin!

Dig this guy's short 9mm AR!!!! It is semi auto;
