Safe moving sticks. For lack of better term

Here is what I came up with for relocating my safe in my house. They worked like a charm. they are made of UHDM Polyethylene cut into 4'x2" strips. Each strip has a 4'x3" oak backing with antiskid pads on the back of the oak backing. They work great over any flooring surface you could have in your house.

very similar to the furniture mover skids you can buy ready to go. They just don't have the oak in between and tend to flex more.

You can also use a bucket of golf balls.

I considered using the moving pads. The only ones I saw looked like they were designed to move items over carpet. I needed to go from carpet to concrete slab then up onto finished ceramic tile floor. Then back again after all carpet was down. using the sticks allowed for the smoothest transition between each surface. I used a small square of 1/4" plywood to help with the jump from slab to finish tile. did not want it chipping off at the edge.

No pictures of them in action. I tilted the safe up on one side and had someone ready to stick one of these under it. Then tilted it to the other side. and yet again another stick. I kept three sticks under the safe at all times. even had the safe resting on these for 24 hours with no ill effects.

Once you get the safe on the sticks its as simple as pushing. pushing something heavy but pushing none the less. if you need to rotate the safe its easily. Only problem I came up with was when you needed to make a hard 90 degree turn. ie end of the hallway into a bedroom. you need to stage the sticks to look like the AT&T more bars in more places logo. have the sticks end where they make a 45 degree line so you can intersect the other sticks allowing for constant coverage without fear of the safe dropping off the side.

One could easily move a safe by themselves. I chose to enlist some help just to make the process go faster.

That's how we always move 'em around - rolling works very well (until you have to change directions ).

1" pipe is the easiest way. We move BIG safes all thge time and thats how we do it.

Pipe rollers.... We have moved some big a$$ed power transformers (12,000 pounds or so) on 2 inch pipe.

I keep a piano dolly around... just some 2x4 stock screwed up in a rectangle with some castoring wheels at the corners...I bought mine at one of those harbor freight kinda places for $15... they are a lifesaver.

How would you move an 1100# Liberty Safe out of a corner . . . across the wood floor & then drop 18" to the new "trophy room"??? Thanks for ideas.
