I know you have to inform an officer that you are carrying. But what is the best way you LEO would prefer us to inform you? Is it better to just hand over our SDA card or should we verbally inform you we are carrying ? And on a side note ... Should we have doughnuts on hand just in case?

According to title 21, you are REQUIRED to inform us verbally and with your SDA card and DL or other picture ID
.

TITLE 21 § 1290.8. Possession of license required-notification to police of gun
POSSESSION OF LICENSE REQUIRED-NOTIFICATION TO POLICE OF GUN

A. It shall be unlawful for any person to fail or refuse to identify the fact that the person is in actual possession of a concealed handgun pursuant to the authority of the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act when the person first comes into contact with any law enforcement officer of this state or its political subdivisions or a federal law enforcement officer during the course of any arrest, detainment, or routine traffic stop. No person shall be required to identify himself or herself as a concealed handgun licensee when no handgun is in the person’s possession or in any vehicle in which the person is driving or is a passenger. Any violation of the provisions of this subsection shall, upon conviction, be a misdemeanor punishable by a fine not exceeding Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00), by imprisonment in the county jail for a period not to exceed ninety (90) days, or by both such fine and imprisonment. In addition to any criminal prosecution for a violation of the provisions of this subsection, the licensee shall be subject to a six-month suspension of the license and an administrative fine of Fifty Dollars ($50.00), upon a hearing and determination by the Bureau that the person is in violation of the provisions of this subsection.

By the time I get out of my unit and to their car window, I prefer an SDA holder to have IN HIS/HER HAND their DL, SDA card and insurance verification, and hand all three of them to me all at once (don't be digging around in your wallet, purse or - God forbid! - under the seat of your car when we approach) and verbally with empty hands tell me he/she is carry a weapon, what the weapon is and where it is on their person or in their vehicle.

Whatever you do, don't pull it out and show me! :yikes2: That could ruin your day. Just simply say, "hello officer. Here's my ID. I have a loaded (state your weapon brand here as well as it's SPECIFIC location - IWB, pocket, ankle, fanny pack, under seat, console, whatever!). What would you like me to do?"

Do all of that and tell us the truth (cops hate being lied to :nono1:) and everything will be peaches and cream. :thumb:

I always try and keep my hands on the wheel until the LEO gets to my window and after asked to hand over license, insurance etc etc.

I was stopped by an Oklahoma Highway patrolman and just handed him my driver's license and concealed permit card. He asked where the gun was and I
told him in my pocket and he said fine and went back to his car. I got a warning for speeding in a construction zone on a Sunday when they weren't even
working! :rolleyes2

I prefer my contacts to sit still in the car with the all the windows on the driver side rolled down. Please have your empty hands on the steering wheel and dont be eyeballing me in the mirror as I approach. The first thing said should be "I have an SDA license and I am armed today" or something to that effect. I will end my contact at that point if they have one. License holders arent likely to get a ticket from me. I would love to see a lot more LEGALLY armed citizens out there. Usually I will sit and chat with them about their choice of weapon, how they like it, cost, ease of concelament, etc.
I can usually spot the cops and license holders before I get to the window because they all know what to do when stopped.

I generally do all the above, and I appreciate your attitude on this. I had never, however, heard nor thought about it being a bad idea to look in the mirror. That's a tough one to expect people to not do, as the cop walking up from behind is generally the only thing on people's mind in that situation. I get why it could make you nervous, just not sure I could just stare into space waiting. Do most people not look?
