You do such a great case hardening, I think that would have turned out better if you had just done that, I hate engine turning, must be a generational thing. I do respect my elders, so; I give you big props for thinking outside the box!

Good job!

The gun was so full of road rash and major scars that I had to do something to give it texture, there was no way to ever make it smooth again!!
I was thinking Dragon scales when I did them, thats why I named it "Dragon Slayer"

I wish the pictures would have shown up better, the gun really does look better than the pictures show.

Green on guns is not my cup of tea, but it somehow works on that gun.

This is my project gun. Armscor M20 .22lr. Paid $110 as it is in the first pic. (the one in front)

It doesn't look bad there, but the stock was in poor shape, lots of discoloration and nicks. The barrel had a lot of rust freckles, some pretty pitted.

Refinished the stock first.

The stock looks better than it really is. I liked the color, but I went lazy, (and ignorant of better ways), did a rattle can finish rather than oil rubbed or something more durable.

Next I stripped the bluing, sanded where it was rusted, and then polished.

Along the way, I learned that the steel in that barrel is HARD. Was planning on working with Honeybee, and doing a gloss blue job on it. But I liked the polished look, so it stayed that way.

Turned out pretty damn nice Nikat!
I have a little .22 that looks really close to that that I'm working on.

I want to get another and do it again. I enjoyed that project.

If I could get it to quit giving me a FTEject every other round, I think it would be a 1/4" @ 25yd gun. Those two top groups, the one-hole parts of the groups are when I got off back to back rounds. Clearing a jam really screws with your consistency.

Beautiful job!

I suggest that you wax that barrel if you are not going to blue it or you will be looking at rust speckles in a few weeks, oil will just run off and not give you enough protection but a good coat of car wax (or Two) will keep it polished for a long time.

Thanks for the tip Honeybee. I'll try and wax it soon. That project was done 3 years ago, and with just oil so far, no rust yet. But I don't shoot it a lot, or handle it much either, so I'm sure that helps.
