Do you recommend taking some classes, other than CCW, before joining and participating in these competitions? Are they for beginners?

Depends on how comfortable you are shooting. The matches I have been to have always been very helpful to all shooters new and old alike. You do need at least a certain level of comfort to move and shoot.

Everyone there is always happy to help a beginner with tips and advice. They always let the beginners go last so they can watch everyone else shoot each stage and have a thorough understanding of each before it's their turn. I shot my first match without having any special training and had a ball. I've taken a couple of beginners with me to matches and they always had a good time. Jump in with both feet!

Trade:
As my first post here, I wanted to say thanks for the write-up; it helped me get a little closer to shooting my first match.
I am now just waiting on the delivery of some equipment before I start. I have a 10mm with an 8 round mag but will soon have a combined total of 3 (one in the gun, two on the hip). It appears that while I may be good for IDPA, I will still probably be a little short for the others.

You're quite welcome! The main thing is to just jump in with both feet and have fun. Honing your skills is just a great bonus! You'll get to meet a really fantastic group of people, always willing to take the time to help a beginner.

As I said, just get started, your tastes or needs/desires may change slightly after you get your feet wet and know a little more about it all. Enjoy yourself!

I hope this the correct forum to pose these questions.

Ive just recently stippled my m&p frontstrap as well as the grip inserts, is this allowed in idpa ssp division?

Is there a minimum trigger pull weight required?

Could I run a apex fss kit in my m&p and still remain in the ssp division?
