I had a young rooster that walked up to my house one night looked like he had lived in the wild his whole life he wouldnt come near people after a few days I got him coming to me and ever since he thinks hes a dog its funny everyone else thinks I am odd they are probably right, but last year I had to give him away because all the stray dogs kept trying to eat him and my work schedule kept me being able to take care of him.

It's probably just me so don't take this the wrong way please. And it is not my intention to denigrate your choice of pet but:

Snakes are cool for sure and are an important part of the eco system. But you can't walk 'em, teach 'em tricks; can't teach 'em to talk like you can a bird. There not as active as fish nor as colorful as a fish or bird, you can't play with 'em like you can a cat. Can't race around a yard with 'em, hunt with 'em like a dog or a falcon/hawk/eagle or anything else one traditionally does with a pet. It's doubtful they get excited when you come home or when its time to eat. ETC ETC ETC

I truly am interested in understanding the allur of owning a snake that could at just about any time decide to choke the life out of you and when/if there'd be nothing you could do about it.

Push comes to shove humans have pets because they fill a need that the human has.

What I'm asking I guess, is how a snake can fill any human need/why anyone would want one?

I dont feel any type of connection with my tarantulas or scorpion, theyre just really cool to own take care of and observe. My reptiles I feel something for them and I feel I get something in return from them, not as much as my love for my dog who I am totally in love with or the love I get back from my dog, but I definitely feel more of a connection with the herps than the arachnids.

After watching all these damn alligator shows on TV I want an alligator but I also know that it would be next to impossible to do plus I would lose my family too probably. The kids help me with my critters but the wife wants nothing to do with any them. Ive even got my own room for mine. She gave me the entire 2 car size garage when we got in our current house and I rocked it in and converted it to several rooms- a shop for my business, a small room for music rehearsal and recording, and another little room I built especially for the critters with humidity and temp control, etc. Its not big enough for a alligator though... or a shark... or a buffalo/bison...

One of my babies that stays up at my place in northern California.
