Who, exactly, would the UN send, and how would the UN pull its stuff together long enough to come to anything close to the consensus required to marshal any forces of any consequence? The UN isn't even a paper tiger; it's about as useful as teats on a boar--it, like NATO, would be lost without the US military making things work. Hell, their "peacekeepers" can't even keep unorganized rabble from stealing supplies, so how would they be able to deal with a situation where better-prepared and better-armed combatants would be shooting at them from both sides?The “they'd probably send in the UN” argument is silly at best.
