Hello all, I wanted to start a thread where we could all post our respective dope along with any of the other factors influencing how well (or not so well) we shot. I personally am very interested to see what kind of accuracy and groups everyone is able to achieve given the vast amount of different setups with firearm builds, ammunition used, etc.

Date: Tuesday October 15th, 2013
Time: 11:30-12:30
Temperature: 47°F
Humidity: 87%
Wind Speed: West at 5-10mph
Weather/Light Conditions: Overcast/Grey
Location: Canadian Ranges
Distance: 50yds (The 100yd range was closed, and appeared as if it will remain so for awhile)
Firearm: Savage model 11/111 Trophy Hunter XP .270 w/Stock Nikon 3x9 optic
Ammunition: Winchester Power Max 150gr.
Position: Shooting from sandbags
Groups: On average 1-1/4" groups (Pretty dismal, Most likely explanation is user inconsistency).
Conclusion: Purpose of the shoot was to sight in my .270 deer gun. Need to revisit the range a time or two more to finish dialing in the scope to place my shots precisely where I want them.

Some bullets do not start grouping till you get out a little further.
And you can't count on a tight group at 100 yards to be any good at 200.
I had a couple loads with the 178Amax in my .308 that would print a best of .376" at 100 but opened to over 4" at 200
Like every one was a flier..At 50 that load would print around 1"

My best load (hunting load) in my .308. savage 10fp
Winchester brass Full length sized, inside of necks slicked up with spinning brush.
210M primers
44gr Varget
Sierra 165 game king HPBT
Speed from 24" barrel for 3 shots fired 2,662- 2,664- 2,666 fps
September 29 2013 wind 4-7 mph
Temp low 70's
226 yards. shooting off a rickety plastic shooting table bagged near the front of stock.
Old used up brass..I also had 2 of the same load in federal brass that blew the group.
A side note : last batch of varget liked 43 gr of powder to produce good groups.
43gr of this batch was 2,606 fps
.880" for the winchester brass at 226 yards with the 44gr load
bullets are .010" off the lands or 2.680" OAL
Fun load to shoot.

Here is the .308 load with the 178 A max.
Looks good for the 117 yards wind was around 10-12 mph that day.
Upper 70's for temp.

That's the load went to crap at 200 yards.
Excellent deer killer though.
I always wondered why i hit a certain deer lower than i aimed with that load at 200+ yards
Until i shot for groups at 200 and 250..I abandoned that load.

Here it is.

my 30-06
I tried making the 178 A max work in that gun also.. good at 100 yards but sucked out further.
But the good load was my stand by hunting load.
R-P FLS brass
210m primers
Hornady #3031 flat base 150gr spitzer .010" off lands
52.5gr IMR4064
OAL 3.195 with old 3031 they just changed ..now around 3.235 to get the same jump to the lands.
But shoots better further off the lands...

Was 88F and wind was 5-10mph target hanging in tree
Shooting off the top of my Geo metro bagged near front of stock.
Rifle is mossberg 100atr 22" barrel and i lightened and smoothed the trigger.
300 yards the upper 3 holes are the above load
2.275" center to center
The 178 Amaxes were 6.5" at that range and the 165 game king HPBT from the 30-06
were on paper for 2 of the 3 shots...
Other holes are 30-30 marlin with 170gr factory ammo.
aimpoint was grey tape square above black tape.

That is quite fascinating swamprat, I did not realize there could be such a large deviation in accuracy by simply moving the target back another 100 yards. And thank you for posting the link to the 100yd challenge ASP785!

This is one of the basic paradigms in LR shooting, too bad some most shooters give up at 100; they cant understand this.
thanks for posting.

Yep. I was out with the .338 lapua, Schmitt Bender scope at 500 on Monday. Sighted in at 100, screwed at 500. Put the level back on the scope, and got it trued up. Eye balling a scope is ok for close range. Not LR.
