OK, Guys. I'm learning here. Start with bear spray and bells because that would also be lighter than a shotgun.

However, I'm now REALLY worried about the unicorn covered with glitter. That would really mess up the wildlife images if I had to use flash for fill purposes.

However, I really do appreciate everyone's sage advice.

900# black bear are very very rare. I bet he runs the risk of being speared by a unicorn covered in glitter as much as running into a 900# black bear.

However you do make a great point about not teasing or testing with non lethal rounds.

OB that's funny stuff. I saw one once or was it a pink elephant.:yikes2:

Mace and bear spray are NOT the same. People up here in the Yellowstone area have died figuring that out.

Bear spray is what I was referring to. Did not see the previous post and couldn't think of what it was called. Duh. I agree with less lethal spray and then
slug or buckshot if you go that way.

I have no experience shooting bears with bean bags nor do most people, but i have see (on television) in areas like Yellowstone they will shoot bears with bean bag rounds to scare them away and make them afraid of humans. this is after they were caught in a populated area and being set free away from people. it looked very effective.

here is a similar instance where a bear is shot with a bean bag. http://youtu.be/fsfJI-8HFOA

Like most things martial...mission drives equipment. Trained individuals, with lethally armed backup standing by, shooting a trash eating bear to scare it away is not the same as using bean bags to deal with an unexpected attack by a bear whilst out enjoying nature.
