What's the source for that number? I've searched the internet, but my web-fu is weak.
Surely there is no such precision, especially since each grain of 4064 weighs around 0.05 grain.

Here is the information I have

That appears to be an inspection report summary, shipping document or maybe even a label. The powder weight is probably an average of the actual samples weighed during production. Just a guess but I've done many DOD contracts in the past, just not ammunition.

Thanks for data.

What's interesting, a quick search shows that it might be applicable only to that 09 run. Apparently other batches were loaded with RL15 (or equivalent) with 42.5-42.7 charge.

OP - would you mind taking one of these babies apart, and weighing the charge and maybe post some pics of the actual powder?

My understanding is RL15 was used until they switched to 4064. I don't recall the date of the switch. I have better luck with 4064 over RL15. I use VV N140 in my match loads and those are even better.

In my opinion it is always rifle specific.

That is a good thought on where they got 41.745 as that always seemed odd to me.

If you do the math on it, 889 lbs of powder for 149040 rounds, it comes out to 41.753891572... grains per round. Maybe they just have much better scales than what are publicly available.

I bet it had to do more with 20x sample average;
take a box, dump the powder, 834.9 / 20 = 41.745

I picked up a bunch of that and my 700 PSS absolutely loved it. I bought it in bulk for 37 cents a round from a shop that was going out of business.

Funny I was at Academy this weekend and they had some cheap Fed LC 149 Gr M80 Ball with a date code of 79. That's some seriously old new stock.
