Serial number is 4550xxx. That is a standard IHC/IHC postage stamp, correct?

Supposed to be here tomorrow before 10:30.

Yep, that's solidly in the middle of a block of IHC/IHC PS's. I'd expect a barrel date in the spring of '53 on that. Good luck with the reveal! :D

I know some of the others are more collectable, but in an odd way I was glad to hear that my first IHC would be a plain ol' regular IHC. Not that I'd have turned my nose up at any of the other rarer options.

I wonder if I'll be able to sleep tonight. This will be one of those rare times when my odd work schedule comes in handy; I am off tomorrow.

A big score would be to receive an IHC stock on your rifle. Easily the single most expensive item to correct, should you want to go that direction. Just a few more hours!

Can't wait to see pics!

Yesterday my SASG arrived and I got to relive that open the CMP box and see whatcha got moment again. Totally worth it every time!
Hopefully I'll get to do that again this fall. Here's the non-backorder semi-DBU DBU email I got from the CMP regarding my IHC order :

We have received and verified your recent order. There is nothing that we will be able to tell you about the order until we have input all orders received ahead of yours into the system. Your order will now advance to our sales area and from there to our shipping area. Please note, that unless otherwise listed, our order to ship time is at least 60-90 days. You will receive other emails as the order progresses.

Your customer # is XXXXXX. The order will not show as pending on the estore until the Sales Department processes and assigns an order number to it. If you have any problems logging onto the estore, please let us know.

Thank you for your order and your support of our program.

Well, here she is.

173e1i.jpg

IHC/IHC Postage Stamp receiver
LMR barrel dated 7-53, muzzle 1+, throat 2
Bolt-post war SA
Op Rod-IHC
Trigger Group-looks to be all WW2 SA 1943-44
Front Sight- Wide, looks to be IHC
Windage Knob-IHC/DRC
Elevation Knob-IHC
Stock-very nice HRA, seems a little thicker than my other HRAs.

So, my assessment? I didn't get anything super cool like a note from a Turkish soldier but what I did get is a rifle in very nice shape. I'm very pleased.

Questions? Comments? What would you really like to see pictures of?

From the looks of it, you got a better-than-average example! The barrel is dated later than I'd expect, but examples exist in the IHC database of earlier rifles with later-dated barrels; there are several reports of 4.54M rifles with 7-53 dated barrels. The wear numbers are quite good, too. While the stock isn't IHC, it's a good-looking USGI stock. The rear HG looks to be birch? The op rod being IHC also is a nice little score, as well as the other IHC bits.

I'm curious - why would you strip it down almost to the last nut and bolt? Are you planning to do a ground-up correction? Also, what was the armorer's inspection date on the hang tag?

I agree that I did well. The stock on this rifle is one of my better USGI stocks from the CMP. Both handguards are walnut but the lighting in some pictures makes one or the other look a bit odd sometimes.

As for why I took it all apart, the picture was kind of a joke, as in here is a pile of parts that don't really tell what the rifle looks like. I do tend to completely disassemble milsurps jut to check everything out. The trigger group on this one had a little dried grease or cosmoline and the bolt was kind of oily. Once you have those two taken apart, as I'm sure you know, the rest isn't much trouble.

Here she is all put pack together.

Here is one that shows the information found on the barrel.

Had her to the range already today. Shooting the CMP GSM course of fire I shot a 248 which is slightly above my average. The trigger seems really nice. I haven't really tried tilt testing or anything like that yet.

That really is a nice looking rifle - one of the best I've seen so far from the current release of IHC's that wasn't hand-picked during the store sale. I only hope mine, due in the next week or so, is that nice :)

Already had it out to the range?? I'll probably not get around to doing that with mine for a few months, as Red Castle is an hour's drive and I usually have things going on each weekend. Where did you shoot?

What was the armorer's date of inspection on the hang tag? From what I've seen, the rifles from this first batch of IHC's were inspected in the fall of 2012, and there's speculation whether they came from Turkey - or from previous returns from either Greece or the US Army. Orest has alluded to this.

I saw that question in your other post but forgot to answer it, sorry. It was inspected 11-15-12.
