Yeah, I've seen the SA and WRA Service Grades have been taken off the sale list. I've also read in the CMP forums that it looks like the HRA's currently being offered could be phased out for a while and SA's put back in the mix. I've seen some guys posting SA's and WRA's with pull dates as late as Feb. So I'm thinking I get the paper work in and even if my order's put on back order, at least it's in line. Also going to look around locally and probably hit the Wanenmacher show this next weekend, although I doubt I'll see anything under $1200 if at all.

I saw your classified ad for the SA yesterday, but alas I'm not able to post in the Classified section, yet. I would've been first in line.

You mean, submit an order for a rifle that's not listed for sale? You may want to check on that; the CMP folks might pitch the order since it's for something not available. They were talking about that on the forum last week, with several folks frowning on the idea. My suggestion is to wait till the rifles become available, then submit the order. The CMP will work off the post date on the order to fill it, and do their best to get you what you ordered. I myself am waiting for the SA SG's to come back so I can send in an order for one or two more; I'm hoping to get a late WW2 rifle with original barrel for a correction project.

I didn't - the stock set that came on the rifle is walnut. I replaced all the wood with this birch set. It doesn't hurt the value of the rifle, since it'd been rebuilt at least once. I wish I could say I magically transformed the "original" stock, but alas :wink2:

Oh OK that I can believe. I misunderstood and thought you said it came with a birch on it. I was going to pester you to find out how you transformed it into that gorgeous tiger!

Thanks, I'll definitely check with the CMP before I mail it in. I came late to the Garand game and I'm anxious to find some buddies for my HRA Special Grade. Got it and a couple cans of Greek surplus when the CMP Games were at the OKC Gun Club last April. I've already contacted them about what the South Store might possibly bring this year, but it was too early to say. Probably just Special Grades again. I'm looking for more original material.

*EDIT - I see the HRA Service Grade Specials have been taken down, as well. So they might only bring CMP Specials if anything...

The HRA service grades are still on the website.

They definitely are and it's tempting to get another HRA, but I'm really wanting to try to get one from each manufacturer. A Springfield and Winchester from the WWll era and a later Harvester would fill out the collection nicely. Maybe after I can start the splurging (or as I tell the wife, "investing" - M1C, M1D, National Match, .308 Navy conversion, the list goes on...)

Got an Email from CMP today stating the HRA Service Grades are on backorder but they had a small lot of SA Service grades for the same price ready to ship if I wanted to change my order. I went ahead and told them I would take the SA. They said it should ship in the next 7 to 10 days as long as the shipping department wasnt back logged. Hope I didnt make a mistake.

You now have a shot at a WW2 SN; I'd have made the switch myself as well. Good luck!
