For those of you who have not had the pleasure of meeting CHL, his knowledge of Milsurp surpasses anyone else's that I know. Great guy to boot. I'd buy him a beer anytime.., if he was old enough to drink!

Thanks for the kind words Clay. There are quite a few guys on OSA that are much more knowledgeable on milsurps than I am. I'm not an old fart yet and only have a few years of collecting under my belt as you pointed out. :wink2:

I would like to find the leather chin strap to replace on my fathers WWII steel helmet. Anyone have a suggestion?

I'm assuming that you're referring to the leather liner chinstrap on an M1 helmet correct?

J Murray Inc sells reproduction WWII chinstraps and NOS USGI postwar chinstraps. If you are looking for an original WWII green buckle chinstrap they normally run $75-$100 on eBay.

Yes, but unlike others, you've made a study of it.

I've added several more U.S. helmets to the collection in the last couple months and figured that I'd post photos of a few of the recent additions.

Front seam swivel bale McCord (left) and front seam fixed bale McCord (right):

Some shots of the fixed bale (raised bar brass buckle, CAPAC liner with green buckle liner chin strap)

Some shots of the swivel bale (Westinghouse liner with late war blackened brass chin strap buckle)

The first 2 made me feel right at home. I'll bet your wife just loves you. I'm knowing you have the entire 3rd bedroom full of memorabilia.

Now I wish I had kept the old steel pot I was issued before we went to Kevlar. I did manage to latch on to one of the first issued Kevlars. Who knows, it may be a collectors item someday.
