Changing Up My SKS...

Took the SKS out to the range today. I definitely like the new Kivaari trigger job. It's so much shorter and crisper, with a 4.5 pound pull. The new magazine and CNC Warrior piston worked flawlessly. I am now in need of a cheek piece and I knew that already. So, I already ordered one, but it's not here yet.

Also, I'm thinking about ditching the 1X BSA red dot and replacing it with a scope. Just not sure what to get. Any recommendations on a high value (i.e. good balance of performance and price) scope for 50 to 100 yard shooting?

Anyways, here's the best 5-shot group at 50 yards. Looks to be around 1.5" (3 MOA). Ignore the 22lr holes. I was shooting a new Ruger 50th Anniversary in between SKS groups.

So, being the cheapskate I am, I bought one of these on Amazon. It's a 4x32 fixed power.

After mounting it to the Choate mount, I quickly realized it was way too high for me...even with a check riser. My son would have liked for me to hand it over to him to put on one of his BB or airsoft guns, but I returned it.

I have a Simmons 762 4x32 that came with the gun when I bought it. I'm going to try it for a while. Hopefully it'll do well. If not, I might spend the extra money and go with a Nikon P-223 3x32 BDC.

that stock looks amazing, I usually like SKS's all original, but I gotta see you did a great job on that one.

Did you drill the reciever yourself? Also how well is that mount holding the zero? I'M leaning towards in tapco-Ing my sks.

I didn't drill it myself. The PO's gunsmith did that. It holds zero perfectly. The Choate mount is one of the few SKS mounts that do work well.

Two things:

#1. Love what you did with the stock.

#2. 922 compliant? If it came to you that way, it can have that OEM magwell, I believe. Someone jump in if I am wrong here. I really like the factory magwell too. Would it not be considered to be in the "sporting" configuration that way?

Thanks. I'm definitely no 922r expert, but I figure it need to be compliant since I have personally modified the rifle.

Hey, don't take my word for it! I think it has to do with when it was imported, but I'm not sure. I was just curious.

I had a new, cosmoline covered Norinco that I bought in the late 80s, maybe early 90s with ammo, and all kinds of bells and whistles for $89, or $98. Can't remember. Either way, I wish I still had it. I always wanted one of those Norinco 20 round mag wells for it. It was a great little gun.
