Those are some nice looking rifles, guys. This is my Springfield Scout Squad. I have an Ultimak rail coming tomorrow which will host a Vortex Sparc.

I finally ditched the new CMP walnut stock on my lone Garand for a correct DAS SA stock. I've been trying to track down another set of USGI wood for quite awhile. I let a field grade (Greek return) 1/2" DAS SA set and a nice 1/2" DAS HRA set go a few years back and I've been kicking myself ever since. Finding a replacement set hasn't been easy because I'm honestly too cheap to pay the going rate on these stocks nowadays. Luckily I was finally able to find something that fit the bill for the right price...the DAS is faint but the rest of the stock is near service grade quality wood and has great lock-up. The handguards were purchased separately but are a dead match.

The rear handguard had two cracks that extended from the rear of the handguard to the clip recess and all the way through the handguard. I repaired both cracks with Gorilla Glue, dressed the areas with files and sandpaper, restained with both alcohol based dye and oil based stain, then finished with pure dark tung oil and they are no longer visible. The red lines in the photos below show where the cracks previously were.

Lucas, excellent job repairing those HG's! The rifle looks good too; can you provide the SN range and a parts ID breakdown, please?

Thanks Todd. I normally avoid Gorilla Glue but it works very well with handguard repairs, the tricky part is clamping the handguard so that the glue doesn't force the crack open further. I've seen a couple individuals on the CMP forums state that GG is worthless for minor repairs since it can't be stained well and the repair is always visible, but I haven't had that issue at all. After staining with the alcohol based dye the glue takes on a color that resembles the grain of the wood pretty well. I believe that I have seen a couple of Rick B's repairs where GG was used and they were not easy to spot either. This stock was the first that I used Real Milk Paint's Dark PTO on and I absolutely love it.

The rifle is a 5.88 SA. I completed a data sheet for the rifle awhile back...if I remember correctly the incorrect parts on the rifle were the bolt (6528287 HRA U), op rod (6535382 HRA), safety (60's era SA marked replacement), the gas plug (originally HRA O, but I swapped it for a P O marked plug in better condition which I believe is still not correct), and possibly the hammer plunger (has wings...I can't recall if this is correct or not).
