Wow, got an email a bit ago from the CMP - there will be fewer than 35 Carbines available for sale in each of the two Stores. I wonder if this will discourage some of those who plan to stand in line Thursday morning? Better figure on getting there at midnight tomorrow evening, and prepare for a long, cold night!

ETA: Mark Johnson, the COO of the CMP, made this comment earlier this afternoon:

Mail orders... We will randomly pick and process from 1 Feb. stack of orders. We received over 5000 orders for a little more than 1000 Carbines on hand. We hope to receive close to a 1000 more in the next week or so. We will process orders for the first 1000 or so on hand Carbines and then fill back orders with the 1000 or so that are on the way to us now... The 1000 or so on the way to us now are from Army inventory.

So it looks like those who got their orders in on Monday have about a 40% chance of getting a Carbine either in this batch or in the next one coming out. I find it interesting the Army was sitting on this second batch; did they come from the Army via a MAP return from overseas, or did they sit in a Stateside armory till now?

I would be surprised if they aren't planning on more later in the year. That is just a thought based on the "one per year" comment. Good luck to the rest of you locals that sent in an order!

So did anyone get one yet? Sent my order in for one (fedex, delivered @ 0958 on the 1st). Haven't heard anything yet. Been checking my email and the e-store constantly.

Even though the US Military won't admit to it, there are still several large stockpiles of WWII weapons sitting at different Depot's across the US. I know cause I've worked at several of these. Most are at the same sites that munitions are stored, along with stockpiles of WWI and WWII war trophies. Granted the military has large stocks of class III weapons that we will never see come up for sale, they still have stocks of M1 Garands, Carbines, 1903A3's, 1911A1's, 1903's General officer pistol's, and different versions of the Victory revolvers(Colt and S&W). Plus different types of shotguns.
