What are your thoughts? What brand and where to find the best deal? I'm looking for suggestions.

Avoid cheapo electronic. Peltor are good and very popular. I use Pro Ears (pricey), which also makes the Brownells house brand (bargain and lifetime satisfaction guarantee).

Battery access is through the ear opening under a foam pad. This is the usual design with many brands.where do the batteries go on the brownell model?
at this point all i hear is ringing and crickets anyway, i am so used to it i don't think i could go to sleep without the ringing, cricket chips and the 17 year cicada sound
