For those interested in such things, there's a good museum close enough to make a day trip: Cavanaugh Flight Museum, at Addison Airport (Dallas). The very cool part is that a substantial portion of their collection is fully airworthy, and you can get rides in several (including the only FAA-approved 2-seat Corsair).

Start saving your pennies!

I used to live north of Dallas and drive by the Addison Airport everyday to get to work. The first time I saw their Stearman out flying, I almost attended because I couldn't keep my eyes off of it.
I always wanted to take a flight in it, but the money always found other ways to be spent.

There's an SR71 hanging in the Cosmosphere in Hutchison, KS. Cool air/space museum with great history air/WW2 history space artifacts. Great place for older kids.

The last piston driven fighter, the F-82 twin mustang, is one not seen very often. My Uncle Carol had a squadron of these, along with other types.

Ah, yes. I actually got a ride in one of those. Remember Red Baron pizza?
I got to ride with the Red Barons a couple of times, a couple of months after the last time two of them crashed and both pilots died, one of which I had flown with. That was the end of the Red Baron Squadron

I’m a big fan of the Vans experimental aircraft. Also love the Cirrus SR22. My dad had a RV-7A and recently sold it to get an RV-10. I got to go out to Sacremento and fly the RV10 back with him. Fun trip and beautiful scenery flying over north California. Our plan was to take it to Oshkosh last year but it was having some work done. Ended up flying with my Brother in law in his Cessna 172. Oshkosh is an amazing experience if you are interested in aircraft.

I would love a Pilatus PC-12 but I’ll need to find a long lost rich uncle to afford one.

Favorite military aircraft is the F-16. Had a buddy growing up whose dad flew F-16s and I got to sit in it on base. Always loved them after that.

Here is the RV10 in St George Utah where we stopped on our way back. The Pilatus PC-12 is from their booth at Oshkosh.
