I just started looking into this so I have very little knowledge as to the workings as a whole.. I do see there are a good many stages.. My question is are the stages, degree of difficulty ? I'd like to set up a stage in the backyard and would like to set up the most difficult, if the stages are degree's of difficulty.. I'll be further educating myself via the web but IIRC there's a few here that participate in such.. Thanks in advance..

They do vary a little in difficulty but not terribly much. Smoke & Hope seems the easiest. The rest I never saw a lot of difference between. SC is a hoot and a great way to get started in shooting competitions.

Easiest. Smoke and hope

Hardest the rest are all kinda equal but 5 to go with that 10 inch plate at 18 yds can be a pain. Need a big area to set it all up, especially speed option with that last plate at 35 yds. It's interesting on that one as well cause you shoot and have to wait for the ping.

5 to go does look appealing with the 10" plates and 18 yds is plenty challenging..

Just looking to become more proficient, maybe after retiring I might get off the farm but until then I'll just play with myself..

+1. The preparation consists of knowing how to load and fire your gun safely. Take your rig and 3 boxes of ammo and go shoot. You'll probably get beaten by a teenage girl, but it is great transition practice and simple to shoot.

Going to a match avoids the work and expense of setting approved steel stages alone, and takes away the excuse for "someday, maybe."
