I’m really wanting to have my .300 wm and my 6.5 Creedmoor barrels threaded for muzzle brakes. What is the process, or is it just have a machine/gun shop thread them and buy brakes? Anyone have recommendations for places in OKC?

I would try local machine shops first. They thread metal all the time . They will set the barrel up in a lathe and single point it. It is best if they have what ever you plan to screw on it so it can be fitted. I have done one myself but, usually have a pro do mine.

The very first barrel I had threaded was at a machine shop about ten years ago. It was a bit of an ordeal. I had to convince them that it wasn’t against the law before they would even touch it. They didn’t know anything about the NFA or gun smithing.

If the barrel has to be removed from the receiver, consider headspace issues and the ability of the person doing the work.

Well, I got it done but wasn’t real happy with the job. Luckily, it wasn’t a high end project.
I’d go with the other suggestions.
Didn’t a law go into effect that states if you’re going to have mods done it has to be by an ffl holder?

Not that I’m aware of. Could you be thinking of the law they were trying to enact regarding 80% receivers and the use of CNC milling machines at machine shops?

What's your barrel contour? I believe you need about 0.70"-0.75" at the muzzle for 5/8x24 and this probably depends on the type brake used.

What action is are you shooting? I would not use a machine shop. If they can't do it with the barrel in the action they need a barrel vice and an action wrench.

Don't stay in OKC just because you want to stay in OKC. Get it done right the first time by a quality gun smith. Jon Beanland in Gould OK is an excellent smith, give him a call or email. He's a one man shop so getting ahold of him may take awhile. http://beanlandrifles.com/
