Just signed up for Grant Cunningham's course 'Threat Centered Revolver'.

I'm really looking forward to it. My brother has been to this course and he says it is good.

Just got back home from Phoenix and had a great time at Cunningham's class. I did fairly well, and I think I was about in the middle of te group performance-wise. Both Grant and the Arizona F&G people (who ran the range) were very good about accommodating my physical and hearing problems. I solved the hearing issue by using a plug in both ears and leaving my implant in place. It bypasses the outer and middle ears and has a program that reduces the noise of loud sounds just like the electronic muffs do.
Grant suggested that I might consider carrying my 4" 610. I am seriously thinking about it, as it is very reliable so far, and the 10 mm seems to me as if it would be a very good combat round. Another advantage is that it is very fast to reload; however, for civilians reloading is not a really crucial skill. For that reason, he did not spend a lot of time on reloading.

He suggested another thing and that is i devote about half of my practice time to one-handed shooting, due to my using a cane. I told him that I sometimes practice with a cane and that I will drop the cane and draw my gun; he said that I was doing well.

This was a very good and also very fun class.

I'm glad that I went.

One should always practice one handed. Weak hand and strong hand. You never know when you might take a round to an arm and not be able to use it. Sounds like you had fun and learned some things. Perfect class to take.

As said earlier, I was recently at Grant Cunningham's Threat Centered Revolver class and the question about defensive ammunition came up.

Grant said that he recommends ammunition from Winchester, Federal or Speer, due to their keeping samples from every lot that they sell. This can be very important in cases where distance becomes an issue, as ammo from the same lot spreads out at the same rate per linear distance. If you claim in an SD incident, that the bad guy was X feet away, the lot samples can bolster your claim.

Just some food for thought.

The class was very good, and it was fun. There were about ten people in the class and I was about in the middle as far as shooting ability went, and can certainly make no bragging claims. By the same token, I need not be ashamed of how I did either.

The class consisted of a series of drills in interspersed with lectures and I understand that the the targets used were the same ones used by Rob Pincus in his courses.

Do I recommend Cunningham as an instructor? Absolutely. I had a grand time in a revolver-friendly environment and this class made me feel not as alone as I had felt on certain internet firearms forums where I had felt as though I was under constant attack due to the fact that I am best with wheelguns.

I'll leave it at that for now. Bottom line for me is that if you ever get a chance to take Cunningham's class, do it.

This is the S&W Model 610 that I mentioned in post #3. Serious consideration is being given to making this my EDC. It is not a gun that everyone cane easily conceal, but if you're a big guy like I am, it might be something to think about.

Did he suggest a holster for you?
No, he didn't, but I have a Don Hume N-frame pancake that I can use. Also, if push comes to shove, I can use my IWB FIST kydex that I got for my 625 some time back when I was a PI in Kansas. Kydex is hard on the gun's finish, though.
