Classes for clays?

Has anybody ever taken classes or gotten proper instruction for shooting clays? I used to shoot them quite a bit when I was younger with my dad...got pretty decent but never had official instruction. Now, its been many years since that and I think I wanna get back into it here shortly and make it part of my regular routine.

Has anybody taken classes, assuming they are offered, at Tulsa Gun Club?
Do classes not only help with technique, but also getting a gun properly fit to you and what to look for? I think I'd really enjoy a properly set up gun for my size as lets be real, they arent designed with people who are very tall in mind.

I've got a pretty good gun to build off of...maybe its time to learn correctly how to use it!

Also, you might check into Oil Capital Rod and Gun Club in Coweta. They do quite a bit with clay sports last I knew.

About 10 years ago, my wife took a women's only intro to firearms class with Mr. Detmer, he was very good. I think I will contact him for sure! thanks

I don't have any experience with any of the state pro instructors other than the recent buyer of Silver Leaf. Shotgun fitment is important, most important on a trap gun than skeet or sporting clays. Greenwood in Augusta, KS is the only stock fit guy I know other than a guy at El Reno who helps the trap kids, he's pretty fantastic about getting the kids set up correctly. I can help folks with skeet, 5 stand and sporting clays as far as telling them technique and why they are missing and where their missed shot was. Trap on the other hand I can't. Learn skeet first and then sporting clays and 5 stand will fall right into place. Trap is it's own deal all together.

Most common reason for misses
-no idea where their shotgun shoots at a stationary target in the first place
-cheek comes off of gun just before firing
-underestimating how much lead is necessary
-closing eyes when pulling trigger(way more common than you think)
-stopping the gun
-point shooting

I'm 6'6"
I've shot an Auto 5 my whole life and it probably fits me terribly but "I'm used to it" and it gets the job done. I'd like to see what a properly fit gun shoots like...but I'm unwilling to modify the Auto 5. That B425 posted above on the other hand, while a more expensive gun, is fair game. I'd think an adjustable buttplate incorporated with the adjustable comb on the stock already would get me fairly close. At least closer than it probably is in its stock form.

Proper gun fit will benefit most everyone. You want your head up and eyes level. Those two NSSA Certified Instructors at Tulsa Gun Club mentioned above can help with that in addition to teaching you Skeet shooting. I think Barry Hartman is the only Master Level Instructor in the State. Although, Chuck Black in OKC might be a Master level now; he was working on it last year. Barry also writes for NSSA’s weekly electronic publication TargetTalk.

Yeah you'll need something that's going to give you 15"-15.5" LOP or maybe more even, depending on arm length, chest size, neck length and size. Todd Nelson stocks are legit imo.
