OK, I put the first coat of satin polyurethane on and let it dry overnight, and then rubbed it down with #0000 steel wool. I’m going to put on a second thin coat of the satin poly now. I’ll let it dry overnight, check it in the morning, and if it’s good I’ll steel wool it lightly once again and put a good coat of renaissance wax on it and then assemble the rifle. The pics aren’t that good but I feel obligated.

You know, I'm pretty happy with the way the wood is coming out, but I do wish they had an option available to upgrade a better grade of wood, even at a price jump. I'd like more of a tiger stripe, but oh well. There's only so much you can do with Birch, it's just the nature of the wood grain. I think there are higher priced kits out there for someone who doesn't mind spending bigger bucks. As for me? Once I get this rascal assembled, test fired and hung over my living room fireplace, I'm thinking I might spend my money on the Traditions Kentucky Pistol Kit next. When a feller is hunting for grizzle bar, or other dangerous beasts, he needs a back-up firearm, liker a good pistol, to give him that last-second shot at surviving the charge. Grizzle bars don't always fall to your first shot. Especially if your cap fizzles or your charge is afouled.

Joel, I hope you have enjoyed this project as much as I have enjoyed following your progress. You lit a fire in me, but I’m looking to go a little different route.

I’d like to find a rifle or handgun that was built, shot, maybe not cared for as much as it should have been, and put away. I want to try to restore one instead of building one.

So thank you for starting a new project in my mind.
I had a member of OSA give me a 1928 year Model 12 Winchester shotgun that he was afraid to fire as it was defective. It had been given to him by another person for the same reason. The action would not lock up, butt stock was broken and it was ugly with a piece of belting used for a recoil pad.
I found a flat spring that was the issue, replaced it, and had one of our deceased members, honeybee do a period correct rust blue on it. I refinished the wood under his tutelage and it's a beautiful functioning firearm now.
I posted the build process on OSA in the past like Drury is doing with his project. It's a great way to bring a relic from the past back to the present.
Do it!
There is a company in Missouri that can provide just about any stock you want to refinish.

I'm just not satisfied with the polyurethane yet, one more thin coat and it should be good. There's a few small areas that look like they need it. Going to go put on another thin
coat now. Hopefully, tomorrow will be the day to assemble this rifle and call it done.
