Unless it's a recent development, this is NOT correct.

I actually considered taking a CLEET course offered by a local Vo-Tech a few years ago.
:drunk2:

I’ve taken quite a few CLEET classes at the Vo-techs too. Most classes in the different regions are taught in Vo-Techs. They were classes given by CLEET instructors to LE only that were listed on the CLEET website training schedule.

I’m sure there are some CLEET instructors out there making some money on the side teaching classes, but are they issuing CLEET approved/recognized certificates that their students are paying for? Every CLEET class I attended was paid for by the state.

You have the advantage sir, as I've never attended a class.

However, I'm curious how security guards obtain theirs, and why most (all?) PDs require a CLEET certification, since acadamy grads are not yet technically LEOs.

My questions are about CLEET LE Instructors. Is it still a requirement that you be a CLEET Certified Peace Officer in a fulltime LEO position? I have my CLEET Peace Officer certification, but have not been in a LEO position in a long time.
Yes. The school is hard to get into. It's even harder to get out of....

Then they must have been in your job description or continuing education CEU's? That's the way it worked in Kansas.

The certification he’s talking about is for training active police officers and new recruits at the academy.

Ive never dealt with the security side of it, but I suspect that state law allows instructors to teach the Security classes with instructors “approved by CLEET” like they do with the SDA instructors.

Yes you have to be full time and CLEET certified (not reserve). You also have to have a basic instructor development before you can even attend firearms instructor school and you can't attend BID until being certified for 2 years. After that it's 200+ hours of training with a 60% failure rate, then teach a full time academy as an adjunct before you get your red hat.
