The venerable Boeing B-52 Stratofortress. Just think, the BUFF has been in service since 1955! They stopped production in 1963 and only built 744 of them. 58 are still in active service with 30 in reserve and storage.
The story is that when the last B2 is taken to the boneyard, a B-52 will be there to bring the crew home. I'm pretty sure it's the only military aircraft where pilots are serving aboard the same planes their grandfathers flew. Not the same type--the very same bird.

Someone once told me about flying cross-country in a Cessna when he came across some B-52s flying a terrain-hugging mission--when they flew below him. He said birds that big aren't supposed to move that fast, and they sure aren't supposed to be between you and the ground!

There was also a tradition when a pilot retired they were given the B-52 "horn button" off of the yoke. There are no more buttons left and they still fly them.

That was my first plastic model I put together when I was 7. I think I got more glue on me and the parts I wasn't supposed to than the parts I was supposed to.
