What ring/mount combo is holding the Leupold?
Been thinking about scoping my 336XLR. Sweet rifle.
Sent a pic of e Leu rings on the Leu scope. Low 2 piece on pic rail.
I've had good and bad luck with Leu rings. Had to lap a few and though I would have to do that with this one. I didn't use any blu loc tite because I was ready to give up on getting it to set at zero. Spent a lot of time to make sure I got the proper lb/inch on the base and rings and perfectly even on setting the screws. If it gets loopy I'll lap the rings and blu loc the screws.
As I mentioned before, I like one piece ring set up (if possible) and as low as I can get the scope. With one pieces you rarely can get the low rise one piece unless you have a very large bell (which I like) and even then it may be high.
It's a preference. Tomato/Tomauto

Pretty good group for a lever gun in 30-30. That barrel band that clamps on the barrel to stock typically causes the shots to start walking when the barrel warms up.
They have a tactical fore end that looks pretty good but I love the way it looks traditionally. This is not a TactiCOOL gun. It's a man's brush/hunting gun. I would have zero problems using it for grab and go or self defense. It's a lever gun. Other than the extraction pin, very few moving parts to go wrong.
I guess you can tell I'm a Marlin Fan Boy

Interesting that you mention that because my Glenfield has the end cap instead of the barrel band.

I've heard it makes a difference but I've never done a direct comparison myself.

Hell, as bad as my eyeballs are getting I'd have trouble hitting the milk delivery truck at 300 yds. I hate the thought of having to put a scope on my lever gun.
Just don't seem right. No sir, just don't seem right at all.
I know what you mean. It's almost sacrilegious, BUT when the eyes start going away, one has to duck the head, and go ahead with some optics. A 3mil red dot is a pretty good start, and bushnell makes one that looks like a short scope that doesn't take away from the aesthetics of the gun too much.

Scope on a 336? Yep, I have one. I can shoot irons just fine, but when light is low that Leupold lets me see the small branch that may turn an easy shot into a miss. And then there's the hog issue - most of my hog shots come a few minutes after "iron sight time".
