I’ve got plenty of tactical gear. My next long gun will be a Big Boy in 44 mag unless I can find one of those 1990s 44 Mag Winchester lever actions with the big loop and saddle ring.

It’s cool to see how much more energy long guns have vs the same load in my 7 1/2” Super Redhawk.

I thought the article was pretty interesting and it would be pretty cool to have either one or both (JM stamped Marlin of course), but since I can't really afford to have any extra guns I'll just stick with my old 30-30 for now.

I might just dust it off and use it if I get a chance to deer hunt this year.

Nuthin wrong with the 30-30, I reload it for my son...I'd buy one if the pric was right.

Tough decision but I'd go 44mag since I already own a Colt Anaconda and will never sell it. Id only get the 44 mag lever gun if it could handle all the BB hardcast loads. I'd hunt the chit out of that gun for all kinds of game. Let us know what you get.

I have the 7.5” Super Redhawk in .44 mag, and the early Ruger .44 semi auto carbine, so the logical progression would be the lever gun.
Killed deer with both of what I have now. At moderate ranges, both are highly effective.
If I can find a lever gun at a reasonable cost, I wouldn’t hesitate to add one to the safe.

Marlin vs Henry: I have sold all my Marlin and Winchester lever guns. I have come to the point that I greatly dislike the side loading gates in those guns that now pinch my fingers all too often.

I have Henry Big Boy Brass big loop lever carbines in 44 mag and 45 Colt - both with 16.5" barrels. As soon as I find a buyer for my Mossberg all-weather side gate loading 30-30 lever I will buy a Henry 30-30. The Henry tubular magazine port makes it easy for me to load cartridges (and no pinched fingers).

As far as calibers go, I have no favorites. I enjoy shooting all three most common centerfire pistol calibers in lever guns: the 357 magnum, the 44 magnum, and the 45 Colt. While I shoot 44 Spl and 38 Spl out of my revolvers, I prefer full power 357 and 44 mag out of my rifles. I shoot only full power 45 Colt out of my revolvers and rifles.
