For 40 cents a pound if that is what you get it for I would be in for 300 lbs of it.
I have melted a lot of scrap lead and made good ingots from it.
Been doing that for 40 years.
Not hard at all.

And like Cat City Slim stated just powder coat the soft stuff and you are golden.

It’s no more trouble cleaning that wheel weight.

You’ll need a source of metals to harden it up some. Antimony and Tin.

There’s a couple of great Bullet Casting forums online. I believe one is Cast Bullet Association. Don’t recall the other.

Unless you’re thinking of going into business I wouldn’t buy too much. I bought 5 gal buckets of WWs when I could find them. I think probably had around 5 or 6. I was shooting competitive back then and was trying to save money. I shot the crap out of that stuff for years. I still have a couple of those buckets some 20 years later.

eta: I haven’t done any of the powder coating deal so I can’t speak to that. But I have heard it’s a solid option.

How do you guys handle range lead with TMJ bullets? Do you have to separate and cut open to get to the lead? Wondering if they would explode in the pot if not cracked open before trying to melt? I’ve only dealt with wheel weights, plumbing lead, etc.

I don't melt lead and cast bullets but from what I've seen on the interweb, they need to be cut in two for the lead to flow out.

TMJs will not explode. If anything they just float on top and you take them out until they cool, snip it in half with a pair of wire dikes and back in the pot it goes. Usually there will be some damage that will let the lead out though.

The only thing I would be concerned about exploding is beads of sweat or moisture going into your melted lead. Look up Tinsel Fairy
