So.... How feasible is it to carry all the necessary ammo with "just" a battle belt-type setup? Asking for a friend with one on order and no plate carrier...

Very feasible and you will see many participants doing that very thing.

I’ve done it myself on many occasions.

Easy-peasy. Just need some mag pouches on it. I run everything I need on a GI web belt with some taco pouches for rifle, and some el cheapo pistol mag pouches.

@Cavedweller - Thanks for the offer! Once my belt gets in I could use a couple CC pistol pouches and just be one rifle and pistol pouch short of being able to carry double the minimum round count - not that I'd be opposed to ordering a couple more Esstac pouches! It's more just wondering if most people find it easier to use a chest rig (I've looked in to these but haven't pulled the trigger yet) or if it's plenty doable with just the belt.

My biggest possible issue is that my oldest turns 10 the next Monday, so this date might be taken up with birthday party stuff.

I’ve used both, battle belt and chest rig. Eventually I settled on a Haley Strategic Micro chest rig, used it for the last 6 or so Run N Guns I’ve done. I got some of the Esstac Black Friday Blem pouches and will run 1 of those on my gunbelt.
