Helping a friend out and I bought what appears to be an M1 Garand. Its all GI except for the receiver. Its devoid of any markings. It just has a serial # and that it was made by CAI in St. Albans VT. And just says M1 rifle 30-06. Barrel and most other parts are Springfield and it shoots fine. There are no arsenal marks on the stock. Also no importer marks I guess because it was never sold to another country? Anyone have any ideas?

The M1 in question is not an imported M1 Garand.
The CAI receiver is an investment cast receiver manufactured in the 1960's when garands were not available for purchase. CAI had the receivers cast overseas and built garands with surplus US parts.
There is both good & bad reviews on these receivers.
If it functions with surplus ammo as you noted have fun shooting, keep the receiver & moving parts properly greased & clean and enjoy.

Curious what other marked parts make up your garand, the one I purchased over 10 years ago came with a mix of Italian BMB, PB parts and a VAR danish barrel.

Congrats on getting the garand "ping" bug.

All I have shot through it has been surplus ammo and some specifically marked federal for Garand. I haven't really torn into it very far. It has a Springfield Darrel (I think 08-50) and a Springfield bolt and trigger guard. IM sure the insides are mostly Springfield with various mix master stuff. I don't think it was shot much because the barrel has very good rifling. If I had erosion gauges I'd measure it out and see.
