Turned a blank of curly maple on my lathe to make this keepsake container. I also cut two concentric grooves in the top of the lid, and poured in some epoxy with bluish mica powder added. Then I sanded it down to 800 grit and finished with a pure tung oil mix. The container is about three inches high and two and a half inches in diameter. My second attempt at turning on the lathe.

Where does one find such quality wood?

Woodcraft. There’s a store at 41st and Sheridan in Tulsa, and another in OKC on May near Britton Rd. They usually have a monthly sale on one or two species of wood each month or so. Still not cheap, but you can handle the wood and pick the examples you want. And their displays of slabs of exotic wood are worth heading there to behold.

Is that wood shop still south of Cattlemans restaurant? I bought some wood there and a turning tool.

Is this in OKC? If so, someone who lives there might be able to answer that question.

If you are referring to the shop near May and Britton Road, that is way north in OKC. Nowhere near Cattleman's restaurant.

You're remembering Paxton's was about 5 or 6 blocks south of Cattlemans. Just north of the railroad tracks.
No, It is gone, has been gone for several years now. They carried all kinds of exotic woods.
