What constitutes a novelty gun?
To me it's one that couldn't easily be carried, or aimed and fired.
I consider the old Snake Charmer single barrel .410 shotgun a novelty gun.
I like a short, handy gun but the stock on the Snake Charmer was too short to shoot from the shoulder and the stock seemed to like it would be flimsy.
My $0.02.

I bought a Snake Charmer, when my son turned 7. Fit him perfect and let him shoot squirrel, rabbit, frogs, snakes.

Sold it to my buddy, when his son turned 7.

Bought it back and it has gone through 12 grandkids.

I guess it is a novelty, but we love it.

I'm glad the Snake Charmer worked for you and the other poster but the butt stock really turned me off from the gun.
H&R later made a similar gun with a hollowed out Choate stock that would hold a few spare shells.
The Choate stock was a bit longer and seemed sturdier than the Snake Charmer.

Every tool has a purpose...

Just as all the different cars, trucks, airplanes, boats....

Guns also.

Each built for a reason and purpose that at the time....all a matter of wants, or ideas, needs,...what you prefer ..Semi's...bolt, revolver....black powder some seem silly to others,

...but it's an Novelty....tell that to ATF, ...see what that buys you.

The Snake Charmer holds 4 rounds in the buttstock.

I have seen, maybe 3-4 others. Couldn't say how long since seeing one on a rack for sale.
