I am curious, do vacuum sealers like Seal-A-Meal work with any plastic bags or just certain ones? I have been thinking about buying one and have a bunch of fairly heavy bags and was wondering if they might work.

I think there were some that came on the market advertised to seal any plastic bag but they didn’t last long as they mostly didn’t work as advertised.

The real vacuum sealers now use bags designed for the purpose.

Keep in mind wet things can’t be vacuum sealed. The process of removing excess air will pull the moisture into the sealing area and cool it enough that the bag will leak.
If your going to seal meat, freeze it first.

I seal my deer meat with one. It's wet when it goes in & has no problem sealing.

Probably depends on what brand or duty that you get.

Maybe so, I can get a seal with something slightly wet or moist, but as Dennis said, if there is too much, then I can't get it to work well. But sometimes I can seal it a couple of times (next to each other, not on top of each other) and it will work fine.

Cabela's makes telescoping, reusable Liquid Blockers to prevent the issue that Dennis described; https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/cabelas-liquid-blocker
