2002 F150, 5.0L I think, Triton V-8 only 246,000 miles transmission went out again, Last time the trans mission went out at 120,000 miles. Bought the truck to tow a trailer and it would barely and that is what killed the tranny the first time. Repair was fine until I had pulled a trailer a couple of times down from Montana

Thinking about buying another F150, but all I see these days are 6 cylinders advertised with towing packages. Yes I do understand that towing packages mean they all they did was add a hitch and trailer plug to an ordinary truck. But really, can you pull a trailer with these new 6's? How are their transmissions?

My Travel trailer pulling days are behind me, but I still need to pull a trailer with my UTV w/bowling ball mortar or a small boat.

My dad had an 06 F150 with the 5.4 and went to a 2012 F150 with the Ecoboost. He said day to day driving, the Ecoboost got far better economy but when towing there wasnt much of a difference. It didnt have issues towing, but your gas mileage tanked. Turbos are miracle workers!

2002 would not be a 5.0

What weight were you asking it to pull? Maybe you really need a 3/4 ton truck

My 2000 and 2002 with a 5.4 would pull anything I asked it to and I did it quite often. Stopping was a whole other story. Those years there was a factory option to upgrade for a bigger tranny cooler but neither of mine had it.

I know a couple people with the bigger ecoboost engines and they pull pretty strong. I’d still opt for the 5L coyote engine if I had another Ford. Last two trucks have been RAM and I’ve been real happy with them.

what was the question again?

Even the Tundras are going with the 6 bangers and turbos next year.
Tough to beat a F-250 with the 7.3 Godzilla engine and 10 speed transmission.
Ours pulls the 14,000 lb RV down the road at 70 mph in cruise control all day long.
