Cut and edged 30 pairs of bridle reins the other day. We finally purchased a strap cutting machine. Boy lemme tell ya how nice it is! It’s only good for straight straps. It’s came with 12 “pizza cutter” wheels and numerous spacers for setting different widths. More cutters can be purchased at $13 each. It came with more than plenty spacers for any setup. It cuts a 14” swath. Then you just feed the hide through again. Digital servo motor and pedal type control. In picture below it’s cutting 6 straps at 3/4” and 5 straps at 5/8” per pass.
My wife’s been fancying up several more shoes. Been sellin like hotcakes which is good cuz we bought a new sewing machine that is designed for that job. It’s a singer 29k patch machine clone. It won’t sew as heavy as our other machine but it can do things the bigun can’t. It has a rotating foot and can sew in any direction without needing to rotate the workpiece.
She had a pile of what I call designer leathers on a shelf and it made it hard to see what was what with it all piled so we bought some NEW 4” sewer pvc and did some organizing.

Yessir. Thankfully adding on to the existing building would be fairly simple. There’s also an existing house constructed out of cinder blocks about 50’ from my leather shop. It could be an option. It would need tons of work to be a house again but wouldn’t require much to be a leather shop.

Yes we did. These machines ain’t cheap and finding a used one in your area for much less than new price is pretty rare. We bought both of the sewing machines new and drove to Springfield Missouri to get em. The strap cutter we actually lucked into finding it within minutes of it being listed. It’s 3yrs old, had no use in the last year and very light use before that. The lady had it listed well below what it would have brought. So we hauled butt to Dallas and picked it up a couple weekends ago. New it would cost $2500, used it would bring 1800-2000 easy. We bought it for $850.

I am impressed with your setup! What all do you make in the way of leather other than shoelaces and canteen covers? Be nice to know how extensive a repertoire you folks have.

Well....let’s see....we recovered and put new wool linings on some sort of boat fender/bracket things for a customer in Florida once. That was probably the weirdest project. I still don’t understand how these things functioned but we got em made like new again. I’d be pretty certain we could pretty much build anything. No upholstery though! Oh and I ain’t resoling no boots. Thats too much work for too little pay. Shoelaces ya say? Lol. Those shoes pictured earlier have factory shoelaces. The part my wife customized is the top of the foot. Hair-on cowhide on the one set and Pendleton wool on the others. I’ll pm you our Facebook and you can look over things we’ve done in the last several years. If you don’t Facebook, which I don’t, well you’ll just have to holler and swing by sometime.
