The Ranger is in its second (maybe 3rd? Time flies) year of resumed production. It came back largely because GM's offerings showed that the mid-sized truck market didn't collapse like they'd expected and was big enough to justify the cost of adapting the Ranger to the US market. (It's more complicated than that, but that's the gist of it.)

Currently the only engine in the Ranger is an I4 Ecoboost because the global T6 platform was only designed to support inline engines. Thanks to the Bronco program (which is the first next-gen T6), the Ranger's frame can support V6 engines, but getting Ranger back in production for North America was a crash program, and they didn't have the time to redesign the rest of the engine compartment to support V6es. That's supposed to be coming in a future update to Ranger.
Good to know. Ford owner in the past and now.
I was and still am sold on Toyota Tundra and Tacoma. The only reason I went back to Ford is because Toyota doesn't make a 3/4 ton or bigger.
My 14,000 load I'm pulling currently needs more towing weight capability than Toyota offers.

I have a 2013 Gran Caravan that will haul a 4X8 sheet of plywood with the hatch closed. Would be OK for light towing. That 383HP 3.6 V6 is an animal and proving to be realiable. Put all the seats up and haul 7 people.
When I was truck shopping only thing I could find with a full size bed was a work truck with no creature comforts. Had to settle for a 6.5 foot bed, now I really like it. Single cab with short bed easy to park and doesn't take a football field to turn around.

I have a 2019 F150 four door I guess they call it crew cab, with the 5.0 L V-8. I tow a three horse trailer (full of horses) with all the tack that goes with them and as many as six people in the cab with no problems. I am a fan of the V-8. Unloaded at highway speeds it gets real close to 20mpg. With the loaded horse trailer it gets 10mpg.

Also in case in comes up as a trivia question... stacked properly, you can haul 30 hay bales weighing about 65lbs each in a 6.5’ bed and still get the tailgate closed.

Runs great. Pulls a double axle dove tail trailer with golf cart and zero turn mower. Gets great gas mileage and yes, it tows itself as well

I had a 94' ranger 2.3l 5sp from 94'-2003, zero breakdowns but zero power imo. Bought an 04' 4.0l auto 4x4 a few months ago and it's been great. The 4x4 diesel f350 couldn't get down the muddy roads so it sits most if the time.

I seriously doubt a sheet of plywood will fit in any small SUV.

If I were looking for a 1/2 ton pickup, it would definitely be a Ford, but I wouldn’t buy one with an ecoboost. My son had problems with his starting under 20k miles. He kept it until about 40k and traded it for a Toyota Tacoma.
Well Sir, you have one smart son...…..

What year Ecoboost? I am finding there were indeed some problems with first Generation Ecoboost and supposedly corrected in 2nd generation, post 2017 engines.

What is the 3.3L V6 PFDI with Auto Start-Stop Technology Engine? Looking I see this more available than the 3.5 Ecoboost.

How would this engine compare for intermittent trailer pulling compared to the Ecoboost?
