What year Ecoboost? I am finding there were indeed some problems with first Generation Ecoboost and supposedly corrected in 2nd generation, post 2017 engines.

What is the 3.3L V6 PFDI with Auto Start-Stop Technology Engine? Looking I see this more available than the 3.5 Ecoboost.

How would this engine compare for intermittent trailer pulling compared to the Ecoboost?
The 3.3 is the base naturally aspirated V6. You’d have to check the tow and payload ratings to make sure it’ll haul what you want (and from what I recall you saying you wanted to haul, it probably will), but it’s going to be on the low end for everything except gas mileage. That engine is really only in the lineup for CAFE purposes and fleet use, for guys who spend most of their time going to and fro, rather than hauling stuff.

It’s going to be more capable than a V8 from 20 years ago, but it’s definitely the low end for current F-150s.

IIRC you said no to Ram, but I noticed Bob Moore has old body style ‘20 models, crew cab 4x4 5.7 Hemis, listed at $29,xxx. My wife might be upgrading her little Lexus into one, though she’s not enthused about it.

When my 08 f150 got totaled they put me in a ram / HEMI loaner for a couple months. Liked it enough to get one. It was good enough to upgrade to the new body style.

So I was going ask one last question reference 2.7 EcoBoost vs 3.5 EcoBoost. I went out to my trailer to see if I could get weight info to go with my question.

The sticker says this single axle trailer has 2990 pounds GVWR and 3500 GAWR. Sounds like my load should only weigh no more than 510 lbs. I have to two loads I carry on the trailer.

Load one: Kawasaki Mule 610, 1000 lbs.
Load two: Kawasaki Mule 610, 1000 lbs and bowling ball mortar, 850 lbs. total load weight, 1850 lbs.

Question number one: Will the 2.7 Ecoboost safely pull load two?
Question number two: Is my trailer over loaded?

I can't imagine that it wouldn't. 1850lbs isn't much these days. ETA: Be mindful of your tongue weight.

Exactly. Watch your young weight but your setup should be fine. Your getting up there in weight for your trailer under option 2 but you should be ok. The only thing I’d be mindful is getting all that weight on one tire/axel. Like if you went over a curb at an angle and one tire travels up b4 the other.

Any engine in the f150 lineup would pull option 2 without issue.

The GVWR and GAWR are telling you two different things. The GVWR is telling you the maximum weight of the trailer and load; the GAWR is telling you how much the axles can carry. Given your numbers, your axle is rated to carry more than the trailer itself can carry, which means they don't actually figure into your payload calculations (i.e, they're not a limiting factor). To find out if your trailer is overloaded, take it empty and run it across the scales somewhere to find out how much it weighs, then subtract that from the GVWR. That will tell you how much payload it can (legally) carry. F'rinstance, if your trailer weighs 1,000lbs empty, your 2,990lb GWVR means your trailer can carry 1,990lbs of cargo, which means you probably don't want to carry anything on the trailer with the Mule and mortar.

Where to get your trailer weighed is a bigger question. I know the coop at Wayne turns around the readout on their scales after hours so you can weigh things, and other coops might do the same. If you're in the Tulsa area, there's a set of scales just off the BA on the west side of Aspen behind the hotel that houses Shiloh's restaurant. I don't know if it's technically open to the public, but it's not fenced in and I haven't seen any signs saying it's not open. (I haven't tried to use it, so I don't know if it requires payment, etc.)

As for towing that load, most CUVs could tow 1850lbs of load on a trailer pretty easily. An F-150 won't even notice that's behind it; some of them could carry that much in their beds. If the trailer is properly loaded (10-25% tongue weight), you're only looking at using 180-200lbs of the truck's payload rating, which isn't much at all.
