22lr a good get home rifle?

In a scenario like this where walking through an angry mob that get violet, I really dont think youd have to shoot more than one and the rest will scatter like cockroaches when the lights come on.

Nothing wrong with a .22 in my book. The Mossad had no problem getting business done with a .22 pistol.

Fun little bit of info: The Israeli Defense Force has in the past (and still does) uses marksmen with Ruger 10/22's for "less than lethal" crowd control.

Court testimony last October indicated that the cost of .22 caliber ammunition fired in Bil’in and Ni’lin from August 2008 to December 2009 was NIS 1.3 million, or about $350,000. That’s a lot of bullets. The ammunition retails in the US for as little a 5 cents per round, which would suggest that millions of bullets may have been fired.

Well using that math, they shot 7 MILLION 22 rounds in 16 months. That's 14,583 per day. Jeez.

I personally wouldn't keep a .22lr in my vehicle for a "get home gun". Yeah, you could use it, but ideally, you won't (or shouldn't) be confronting anyone on your trip back to the house for a good ol fashioned gunfight. I think that an extra magazine for your sidearm, and a good pair of shoes to go with a backpack with a water bottle, snack, and first aid kit would suffice. With that in mind, A knowledge of alternate routes home is going to be your best way home, whether it is knowing what railroad tracks can get you home, or "concrete rivers". In OKC, you can actually travel via concrete river from Arcadia-hefner-stanley draper-overholser. at least that's what I have been told. I've done a little exploring of it myself, you can get from penn square mall to lots of places in the city via this same network. I think that using this to your advantage is better than dragging a long gun around the city on foot.

If I had to pick a 22lr platform, it would be a 10/22. But I would much rather have an ar or ak platform if I absolutely could. as compact and as light as possible. a bolt/lever gun wouldn't be bad either, but that's with the mindset that I'm primarily using a handgun and trying to get home as stealthily as possible.

yeah, its a pretty terrible idea. Their justification being "its less dangerous than an AR with rubber bullets" is shaky at best.

For me it's more about the 4 legged critters I may encounter. My travels take me out in the middle of the country and often after dark. Sometimes in areas where even the cell towers don't go. If I break down and have to hoof it, I want something that can make a critter think twice about just how good I might taste. You dump 10 rounds into a coyote and he's either dead or at least seriously rethinking his life choices in that moment.

My truck gun: (One of them anyway.)

Mossberg 702. Cheap yet accurate out of the box, extra mags can be had direct from the manufacturer, carbine length and the plastic stock won't rot. And you won't get upset when you scratch it.

I have 5 full mags on mine at all times. High rings so the iron sights are still usable in case the scope gets knocked off kilter.
