I personally have a soft spot for A2 and A4 style stuff, but that comes from my days in the Corps. The Iron sights are extremely easy to use and the basis for using the platform well in my opinion. I'm actually returning my 16" flat top receiver to iron sights now, just waiting on my carry handle.

The uppers with handles can be a little scarcer and sometimes pricier but I always liked the idea of a retro gun.
Agreed. The beauty of the A4 is that you can run the carry handle, but if you wanted you can take it off and slap an optic up there.

@Catt57 heres an A4 upper assembly in stock. The only problem is that if you wanted to go with a more custom barrel or different handguards you'll have to replace these. I dont know what the quality of PSA's handguards are either, or if they have the heat shield inside. I know my M&P 15 didn't have the heat shield inside and I wasn't a big fan.

You make an interesting point on the A4. Having an option for an optic would be preferable, even if just for a red dot or reflex sight.

I've always kind of wanted an A2/ A4 type build but for me that would be a bit of a luxury so I've haven't owned one yet.

I got to fondle a early '70s Colt SP1 recently. Me likey.

I have never handled an AR with wooden furniture but it seems like it would add a lot of unnecessary weight so that might be something to consider.

Oh, this one is all about fun. But still functional if push comes to shove.

My brother has one with wood furniture on it. It is boat anchor heavy but IT"S FREAKING COOL looking! The company's that are doing wood only do it in limited runs.
