...that's one of of those comments that have been used numerous times in the past, and likely always in westerns. I think John Wayne even said something similar in "Rooster Cogburn."

I just Googled it, Silverado was the first thing that came up and so I went with it. I guess I should’ve done some more digging.

There's no guarantee the 1940 movie is the first either.

It was attributed to Judge Roy Bean in that movie. No idea whether that's true.

They say history doesn't repeat itself, historians just repeat each other, so I don't see why scriptwriters should be any different.
