I was surprised at the 454 being listed in a '65 Corvette, as I wasn't aware they were available then. Not sure whether they were prototype/test cars or what, but this was a factory GM chart. :anyone:

Not to dogpile, but they weren't. Would have had to have been a prototype/test car. Didn't get into Vettes until 71 with the LS6. The 454s weren't available until 1970 with the LS5s and LS6s in Chevelles. The top Vette engines before 71 were the L72, L89, L88 427s.

As mentioned it was a factory GM chart.

It hung right by the coffee machine, so I saw it regularly... :D

Reasons why the 1970 Chevelle SS 454 is my favorite all time muscle car.
Well... that would have been after the 1968 8:1 compression ceiling, so not anywhere near a factory 500hp.

The compression ratio was reduced because of government regulations on exhaust emissions. Then came the smog pumps, catalyctic converters, and other hp-killing doodads.

IIRC there actually was a 500hp version although most were rated at 450hp.
