I retired from the DOD after 36 years a few weeks ago and am ready to work on my hunting bucket list. One dream is to kill the turkey slam with my bow.....I’ve killed a bunch of Easterns but have never hunted Rios or Merriams. I have a hunt scheduled for WY Apr 22-25 but would like to give public land in OK and KS a try on the way out to WY. Any one care to PM me with a jumping off place? If you know of any private land where I could pay a trespass fee I’d love to hear that as well. Thanks and God bless! John

I would suggest Black Kettle in Western Ok. It gets hit pretty hard but is generally pretty good. There are other WMAs but don’t expect anyone to give you directions to their honey hole lol. If you are lucky you might meet a landowner at a cafe that will allow you to hunt private land. I suppose someone on this forum may have good private land to offer.
Thanks for your service, I wish you luck in your pursuit.

Canton lake can be productive. I got a turkey there many years ago. I’ve seen them many times while quail hunting

Black Kettle's population has been dwindling over the last few years. You're lucky to see a turkey in three days let alone kill one.

Most no trespassing signs i see have a 1,500-2,500 fine. If you're willing to pay that I bet you can find lots of places. :)
Willing to pay that, plus risk getting shot... :D

Man, I remember the last time we hunted Black Kettle we killed two of the best, longest hooked birds I’ve ever seen, but that was 8-10 years ago too.
