In my 71+ years I've carried just about every pocket knife brand and size known to man......used to favor carrying the older USA made bone scaled Queen and Case stockman's but I've retired them.

Around ten or twelve years ago I came across a Buck # 302 Solitaire sitting on the table at a gun show and fell in love.....single blade, slim, sturdy, positive snap, 3 7/8" OAL closed with a 2 7/8" blade.

They've been discontinued for a few years but can probably still be found......heck, I might even know a fella that neckbearded one or two. :)

I was riding 4 wheelers in Arkansas several years ago, a neighbor who was riding with us was cutting a piece of rope. I mentioned that was a nice looking knife. He handed it to me and it was a beaut! I knew it was a quality made knife and jokingly said I wished he had bought two of them! He handed it to me and said keep it. I said no and handed it back. Guess what it was? A Jimmy Lile folder. Jimmy Lile made very few folders himself. It now resides in a glass case and my neighbors brother who is a knife maker displays it at Knife Shows all over the country. It brings people to his knife tables to see it. My neighbor knew what it was, he really meant for me to have it. It is a joke now about me getting the knife, but in all seriousness I do get it when he passes.

This neighbor had a collection of Jimmy Lile knives as well as a collection of Colt Pistols he bought in the late 60’s. He would buy a new Colt every other month when he would go out of town to work, with the extra pay he was getting to do so. He has over 30 of them.

Attendum to the Old Bone Cowboys:

I copied this ad out of an old Fin and Feather mag from the 50s of the old Western stockman model knives. I have them all in clean shape but the the long spey with a short blade which has the sad face beside it.Never could find that little bugger or a better one like the one I carry. Some have a clip style large blad some a punch ect. I even found the Muskrat never sharpened that is not in the add at the top. Still looking for the one. They are just knives to anyone else but they are what I like.

@Cowbaby when I saw the shield on the scales of those two bottom knives it rang a bell and knowing good and well that I had one to send to you to add to your collection (free of charge) I got up and dug through my knives but come to find out the one I have with a shield is a older Eye Brand not Western......I believe the only Western knives I have are two really nice older W-49 Bowie knives with the original drop sheaths..

Along with my older knives I've got several brand name knives (mostly folders) still NIB.....when I finally bite the dust somebody is going to end up with some pretty nice knives.

Sometimes I substitute in my Kershaw Blur:

From the time I was 12 years old until around 2002, I carried a Buck Squire that I got for my 12th birthday. Unfortunately, that was taken by TSA when I forgot and put it in my pocket before a work trip and didn't have the opportunity to mail it to myself. I miss that thing.

The Protech Godson I bought the day that automatics became legal in OK and have carried it ever since. I love the stiletto style of the blade.

An old German Eye brand is not exactly something I would cry about when looking through a collection and finding one. I used to have and Eye trapper.
Those giant bowies from Western are iconic.
