im gonna ask an ignorant question. How can Mauser actions handle 8mm Mauser but can’t handle a .243?

Older Mauser actions, the 93 and 95 were not as strong as the 98. Most Chinese Mausers are copies of the 98 so should handle the 243 if it is a well made rifle. Sadly many were poorly made. I would have it checked by a gunsmith at the same time you get the chamber cast.

Not a bad question at all. The Spanish and old GermanMauser creates about 30-45 thousand pounds of pressure in the chamber. A 243 will be 65000 to 75000 minimum!! There is one generation German 98 and Swedish Mausers considered safe up to 60000+. I have a Swedish Mauser that has Gustoff markings that is safe with the 243. It’s a good shooter too

Chinese steel is considered a far cry from the 98 and Swed steel. I would not risk it.

Its my understanding that these are German made. Just sent to China.

Some were made in Germany, some were made under license in China. While some run down Chinese metal manufacturing, in modern times it is as good as most. These were made mostly by the Chinese national forces not the communist and it really depends on which plant and if it was having to move a lot. Some were excellent quality, some were crap. Have it checked or bring it to me for proper disposal. :P
