I was going to recommend one the best breakfast places in Santa Fe, but looked it up and it closed after 40 years. If you go through Albuquerque, Cecilia's downtown or Wicks are great diners. I'm usually just passing through NM, but I love NM food. Even the hamburger chain Blake's Lot a Burger that is in nearly every town has good breakfast & burgers with hatch green chiles.

We have done the Red River Bike Rally a few times and stayed in Red River.I think everyone has covered the places to go and the enchanted circle is a good drive. The Rio Grande Gorge west of Taos is great spot to stop at.If your staying in Sante Fe be sure to stop in Espanola at eat at El Paragua.

Not far from the Gorge bridge, to the west, there is an alternative resources community called Spaceship Earth. There's an amazing amount of ways to use stuff to live more 'sustainably'. They will give tours of some of the houses --- you may have to give advance notice now. Well worth checking out!

It’s not in New Mexico, but if you’re going via I-40, the Palo Duro Canyon (southeast of Amarillo) is a pretty cool sight, and I’m told that they put on a pretty show when they’re doing the play Texas.

In surprised nobody has mentioned this, but there’s a decent museum at Los Alamos National Lab. When I was there (more than a few years ago), they had full scale models of Fat Man and Little Boy that you could climb on (well, us kids did; not so sure we were supposed to).

There were some pretty cool outdoor shops in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, but I couldn’t tell you how to get there (or even if they still exist).

Most of the other places were visited were ancient Indian sites, like the Frijole Valley (full of cliff dwellings and a crystal clear stream of cool water running down the middle).

Really, I think the view from Tucumcari is worth the trip all by itself...

The play “Texas” is actually pretty neat. Palo Duro Canyon is beautiful. Good hiking too.

if you’ve seen the children’s movie ‘Cars’ that Mesa by Tucumcari is the one they modeled their Mesa after in the movie.

If your near Raton and the Colorado Border -- Capulin Volcano National Monument -- you have to get there pretty early the road going up( entrance) to the crater edge closes early around 4PM -- but the area closes at sunset -- excellent views -- many many years ago I saw distant thunderstorms to the north in Colorado moving southeast toward Kansas and Oklahoma you could make out tornados forming trying to drop down, pretty impressive -- all kinds of nasty weather, but where we were the weather was excellent, beautiful day !!!!! -- we were able to walk down into the crater. Impressive day !!!!!!

Good luck planning and going on your quest !!!!!!!

Oh yeah. Capulin is a must. I love riding up it on a Harley.

you could always make the trek though the Panhandle and onto Raton and then to the enchanted circle. Then mosey on down to Santa Fe.
