NBC News take. The cause wasn't resisting arrest for an existing warrant. Nope, being Black was his crime. The media et al should be focusing on helping people understand how to interact with cops if they want to save lives. Granted, gun instead of taser shouldn't have happened. But it all could have been avoided if he had just complied. Same with George Floyd. Same with almost every one of these I've seen.

I saw that and thought WTF. Due Process is what separates us from 3rd world countries and the City Manager should have been applauded. The City Council is obviously reacting to the threat of riots and threw the City Manager under the buss.

I blame the dead guy for his actions. I blame the female officer for mistakenly using the wrong “weapon”. I also blame the male officer that was hands on with the dead guy when he was the alive guy. This is just one more video I’ve seen where the drivers door is left open when the officer decides to go hands on. The only possible reason I see for the drivers door to be left open is to use it to help contain an individual. The negatives I see is that can be used as an obstacle against the officer and gives the suspect an opening to return to the vehicle where there could be a weapon. I’ve never been a cop but I’ve wrassled breathing creatures and they are harder to fight when they are returning to or have returned to their hole/cave/drivers seat. Anyhow, I dunno what is appropriate for punishment but I do think there’s plenty of blame to go around. Oh and I’ll also so I think tasers should be eliminated. Folks need to comply with the officer.....if they don’t well then play stupid games win stupid prizes.

Question: if the officer had intentionally pulled her gun and shot him would it be a justified shooting?
If she hadn't yelled 'taser taser taser' that's what the video would show.

I've never held a taser but seems to me it would feel a lot different than the firearm you carry on duty...

He is dead. She is incompetent. Remove qualified immunity for all government officials in any capacity. Level the field of responsibility.

Can anyone on here speak to how easy or difficult the taser v gun mistake could happen in this scenario? It seems like it would not happen given the amount of training they go through, but I have no experience. Could stress and adrenaline flow make this happen easier than it seems? She was 26 year cop too, so not like fresh out of the academy.

There was a similar incident a year or two back, where a sheriff let a guy ride along as a volunteer deputy or something (the guy was 70-ish I think?). He did the same thing, thought he was pulling his taser and shot a guy instead.

Different folks just react differently to the excitement/adrenaline rush.

They do, but remember, pucker factor was 9.9 for her. If that taser was anywhere close to where her sidearm is, that is a big **** up on the training department followed by her. I'm not defending her at all, but remember. When it hits the fan, training is all you have.

There is a reason we are ordered (Not offered) to wear the taser on the opposite side or appendix and away from our pew pew. I wore mine at 330 weak side and always used my weak hand to deploy. The fact that she yelled taser taser taser goes to show that she retained some training when it went south. I believe her 100% she thought she had the lighting in her hand.

I believe you are speaking about the incident with the Tulsa SO. That old man had to do a little time in the joint, but I don't remember where or how long, but it wasn't a long time as I remember. Can't recall his name, but I believe he was a well heeled TSO donor and reserve deputy.
