It's not riding the line. According the regulations, anything that reduces the report at all is considered a suppressor. I think he's asking about Witt Machines linear comps. They do nothing to reduce the report, only redirect it.

The way I was reading it, it doesn't "reduce" the sound, but just "redirects" the sound downrange. But thereby "Reducing" the sound to the shooter.

Just saying it's getting into semantics and that can get messy.

I think they work ok for the shooter, kind of like a brake that will reduce sound for the shooter, alter recoil, and direct sound in different directions. However, depending on what you're putting them on, you can get massive fireballs with them, people will not like shooting around you (like using a brake), and typically recoil is similar to shooting with no muzzle device at all. That all being said, I'm far more of a fan of a muzzle device that will redirect gas to reduce recoil, decrease sound to the shooter, and decrease muzzle rise allowing for faster follow-up shots when needed.

My home defense SBR'd AR chambered in 556 has a Noveske KX5 on it because I want it loud and disruptive.
