DO NOT buy a Samsung! The ice makers are a nightmare. We had our ice maker replaced 2 times under 1st yr warranty. Last service tech said he’d done probably 20 of them. Well now out of warranty once a week we must use a hair dryer to free up the workings inside so it will make new ice. There is talk of a class action lawsuit that’s been filed against Samsung over this too. We are checking that out through the seller Bestbuy

I have a Nice Samsung. Its a pain in the Butt. Ice maker never worked right, would always freeze up. the reason is because the design of the ice maker compartment, it doesn't insulate very well, causing the ice cubes to thaw and refreeze. Had to thaw everything out and take it all apart, and reseal the ice maker compartment with silicone. Hasn't messed up since, but I probably wouldn't buy a Samsung again. I also broke one of my shelves in the process, which you cannot buy unless you wanna pay $70-100 for secondhand plus $30 shipping from ebay.

I don't have much input on what brand to buy, but I do want to offer this: Every local store competes against each other, and most offer price matching/beating. I went to Hahn's and got a quote on a Fridge that I knew Lowes and Home depot could order. Asked about military discounts, which they don't offer, but the salesman "hooked it up" with a few bucks off. I had him print it out so I could "take it home to the old lady to approve". I then took that quote to Lowe's, who matched that quote, and then offered 10% off the competitors price. I had them print it off for me and then went to home depot with the lowe's quote, and at that point I got Home Depot to beat that quote, and gave me $50 better deal per appliance I was purchasing (I was also buying a washer and dryer for my new home at the time), as well as free delivery and installation. I then applied my military discount and walked out of the store feeling like I stole my new appliances. I'm sure you could negotiate other discounts, if you arent military, like first responder/senior citizen/healthcare. Sometimes just asking can get you a discount that they don't actually offer, but are willing to knock a few bucks off. It takes a little foot work, but you can walk out saving a good chunk of money with a days work.

Our house is another vote against Samsung . . . stupid thing leaked no matter what we did and ultimately gave up the ghost in under 5 years I think. Total piece of junk.

I have thought of making my own old school reliable fridge and market it.
But I would not sell any because 99% of people like bling and love to show off.
OH look I have ice and water in the door! I did not want an ice maker in my house hooked up to a fridge.
I left it unhooked for 5 years and one day i come home from deer hunting and wife had talked her dad into hooking up that potential leak.
Yep less than 3 days and I had to fix the leaking POS.

Back under my rock.

I am willing to bet you could make a killing off the idea. Sub-Zero and Viking already do these things, I have yet to see one with anything on the front of their refrigerators aside from doors. They're fridges, and nothing else. They also sell for $3-20k, with a good amount of models in the $10k range. No bling or anything fancy, just quality components, quality exterior finishes, and multiple sizes to fit your home or restaurant. If you wanted to keep things classy you could do a stainless interior as well, like the Gaggeneau Fridges. They start above $10k.

Do it! Let us know how it works out for you. The markup on appliances is just downright obscene for what you get. Might as well try to work the system to lighten the load on your pocket book.

Last repair guy who came to work on ours told us none of 'em are worth a damn any more. "Planned failure" and "Planned obsolescence" is the name of the game. He did specifically mention LG and Sammy as brands with known planned failure rates.

That's exactly what I did, but Lowes had to call Hahn and verify the price first. They honored the quote and still gave me the military discount. Home Depot's military discount really blows (according to what I read) where you have to show a military ID every time you check out and is limited to $50 per purchase. I am not current or retired military or reserve, so that doesn't work for me. Lowes discount works online, Home Depot's does not (again, according to what I've read).

I've had no issues with both. Both companies have the discount entered online or through customer service now, all you have to do is give them a phone number and they verify its you through ID, no military ID needed after you register. I haven't had issues with limits on discounts either. I don't know about the online discount part, haven't tried it. You should still be able to get it. A few years ago they were big on retired and active duty, but now it doesn't seem to matter, all vets get it. At least in my experience. If your local one harasses you, the mustang Lowe's seems to be really lax about things if you need to use them to get the ball rolling.

Samsung makes good TVs but after having the top line front loading washing machine, that's all I'll buy from them. It had to be serviced 4 or 5 times in 6 or 7 years. Water pump twice. No more, I'm back to Whirlpool refrigerators & washer/dryers, and Bosch dishwashers. I might gamble on a Bosch fridge depending on price but haven't had the need to go looking. Their dishwashers are uber quiet and clean a ton better than my Whirlpool Gold did.
