Precisely. Dumb isn't it?So if I change the "brace" for a regular butstock, I have to register with the feds or its illegal?
What time is it? It seems the ATF changes its mind on that about every fifteen minutes or so.That part I kinda knew. But what constitutes one over the other?
I’ve done that with a Colt Government.380 before....Nice little pistol there. But my... uh...friend...I mean this guy I met at range... said to be careful cleaning it, with the slide off, it is real easy to rotate the frame mounted safety lever up just a tad too far, and when you do, SPROING! You'll launch the little pin and the tiny, almost invisible spring into that dimension where such tiny parts go. He also told me that it is really easy to put the idiot mark on it.
So if I change the "brace" for a regular butstock, I have to register with the feds or its illegal?
Okay, gotcha. I have no plans of interacting with them ever. That is correct

OK, Hotshots, here is one you won't see every day.
Been waiting 2 weeks to get this Alkanet root. (no you don't smoke it). Its an old world stain making plant that used to be used on high end shotguns and such. I am going to pulverize this in that mortar and let it steep in some oil a week or so and try and fake that old Winchester red stain. Most people would just go to Home Depot and grab some minwax most likely.
After reading all kinds of recipes I just decided to use the Kiss principle and Keep It Simple Stupid. Boiled Linseed, this root powder and a splash of turpentine and make a red oil to do the grain filler sanding coats on a stock. Might sprinkle a dab of baby powder on it if it don't do a good fill but that' s all I'm going to use. I think the guy's over at Purdy are probably safe in their job security but Old SKool baby.View attachment 203754
